Sherwood House Vineyards was established in 1996. Owners Dr. Charles Smithen and wife Barbara together with its head winemaker, Gilles Martin, have been committed to the production of world class wines using only estate-grown vinifera grapes. For Dr. Smithen, “There’s very little nature and man can do in true harmony.  A vineyard is one of those things.”

  • 2004 Sherwood Blanc de Blanc
  • 2005 Sherwood Manor
  • 2007 Oregon Road Chardonnay

de gustibus non disputandum est

My first encounter with Sherwood House Vineyards was on the heels of a Louis Latour Tasting in which a 2005 Meursault was offered. I can distinctly remember the nose of the Sherwood House Vineyards 2004 Chardonnay as it evoked magical memories of my honeymoon in Dijon. In retrospect, I have come to two conclusions: Sherwood’s 2004 Chardonnay can stand up to the best of what Burgundy has to offer and my living in Long Island Wine Country is like a second honeymoon for me.

The Sherwood House Vineyards 2004 Chardonnay is indeed everything one could hope for in a Chardonnay. It doesn’t get much better than this.

    Hey Denize,

Nice review. Sherwood is a great place to have a glass of wine or three, or just generally enjoy the beautiful country side and laid back atmosphere. From the firepit in winter time, to the picnic tables, to the dusty road you drive up (or walk as we do)…it’s really an enjoyable and unique place to visit.

Can’t wait to go back now!

    Jake
