Make a contribution to this debate as to whether decanting a wine enhances or advances the aging process.
You will need:
• 3 identical bottles of wine. Select one you would normally decant such as a very cheap red or a more expensive youthful red, and
• a “partner in wine” to later pour the three wines for you to taste ‘blind’.
Now open the first bottle and decant it. Wait two hours before opening the second bottle and simply let it ‘breathe’. Wait one more hour to open the third and final bottle. Now have your “partner in wine” serve a glass of each of the wines blind for you to taste. Do you notice a difference between the three different treatments?
